Dear Sir/Madam,
Stanislaw Staszic University of Applied Sciences in Piła, the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the University of Potsdam, Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation hold an international scientific conference
in Piła on 12 and 13 May 2016 with researchers from Poland, Germany, Slovakia and possibly other countries.

The aim of the conference is to discuss and answer the inquiries concerning the condition of the European Union in the second decade of the 21st century, the means of dealing with the current crisis as well as future development strategies.
The key points of the presentations will be concentrated on the most pressing issues of systemic, social, political and economic nature with which the European Union has been confronted in the current century.

Conference topics:

  • the issue of migration and refugees,
  • populism, demagogy and radicalism in the EU member states,
  • the financial crisis of the Eurozone,
  • the inefficiency of the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy (the crisis in Ukraine, relations with Russia,
  • the crisis in the Middle East),
  • the downturn of the European Neighbourhood Policy (the Eastern Partnership, the Partnership for Modernisation, the Union for the Mediterranean),
  • the lack of expansion prospects,
  • the inefficiency of the EU common energy policy,
  • the discrepancies in the climate policy,
  • the lack of a clear and direct concept of systemic and political scenario for the EU,
  • the layering of social problems (high unemployment especially among young people,
  • the phenomenon of precariat and social exclusion),
  • the difficulties in the execution of the Transatlantic Partnership,
  • Grexit and the possibility of Great Britain’s withdrawal from the EU (Brexit),
  • the safety of Poland in terms of threats to Europe,

The organisers’ goal is to publish a joint work composed of about 15 papers, survey reports and academic announcements presented during the conference.
You are invited to present a paper, an academic announcement or to take part in debate.
